As the Israeli raids on Lebanon continue to spread, the Pentagon has stated that an Israeli ground incursion into the besieged neighbouring country doesn’t appear imminent, according to spokeswoman Sabrina Singh.

She clarified that her statement was specifically in the context of a ground incursion, noting that the situation doesn’t seem pressing at the moment. However, Singh deferred to Israel to discuss their own operations.

The US has made it clear that they don’t want any actions that could escalate the situation further. Singh emphasized that diplomacy still has a chance, saying, “We still believe that there is time and space for diplomacy. We want to see a diplomatic resolution and a solution to prevent an all-out war.”

When asked about US support for Israel’s operations in Lebanon, Singh gave a straightforward “No. No support.” She stressed that the US military is not involved in Israel’s operation within Lebanon.

However, Singh did confirm that the US is deploying a small number of additional military personnel to the region to augment existing forces, citing heightened tensions between Hezbollah and Israel.

The conflict between the two has been ongoing since the Israeli military action in Gaza began, resulting in over 41,400 deaths, primarily women and children, following Hamas’s cross-border attack on October 7.

The international community has expressed concerns that strikes on Lebanon may spread the Gaza conflict regionally.
