Saudi Arabia’s Border Guard has successfully thwarted several smuggling attempts in recent days. In Dhahran Al-Janub, Asir, four Ethiopians were arrested for attempting to smuggle 40 kilograms of hashish into the country.

The seized narcotics were handed over to the relevant authorities after completing initial regulatory procedures.

Additionally, Border Guard land patrols in Al-Dayer and Al-Ardah, both in Jazan, prevented the smuggling of 165 and 435 kilograms of khat, respectively.

The security authorities are urging citizens and residents to report any information related to drug smuggling or selling activities. To facilitate this, dedicated hotline numbers have been established: 911 for Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Region, and 999 for the rest of the Kingdom.

These successful operations demonstrate the Kingdom’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and maintaining national security.

A recent study examined the abuse of seven substances in Saudi Arabia, including tobacco, alcohol, Khat, cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine, and opioids, to estimate their prevalence.

The results showed that tobacco is the most widely abused substance in the country, followed by amphetamines. Additionally, Khat consumption was found to be disproportionately high in Saudi Arabia’s southern region.
