Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian arm, KSrelief, has signed two major agreements aimed at addressing critical needs in conflict-stricken Yemen and Syria. The agreements, valued at $1.5 million, are part of ongoing efforts to provide essential support to vulnerable populations in these war-torn regions.
In Yemen, KSrelief’s cooperation with civil society organizations focuses on education for illiterate students and those with disabilities. The project’s second phase, set to benefit 8,975 individuals, will be implemented across six governorates: Aden, Lahij, Al-Dhale, Shabwa, Hadhramaut, and Al-Mahra. It will build the capacities of centers and public schools involved in the protection, care, and rehabilitation of people with disabilities, as well as literacy education. According to the Saudi Press Agency, this initiative is key to empowering underserved communities in Yemen, where years of conflict have devastated the education system.
Meanwhile, in Syria, KSrelief signed a joint executive program to provide 300 temporary housing units for families displaced by the 2023 earthquake. Targeting several camps in the Jandairis area of Aleppo, this initiative will support 300 families—1,330 individuals—by replacing their fabric tents with more stable housing units. Each 30-square-meter unit will include two rooms, a hall with a kitchen, and a bathroom. Additionally, KSrelief will install 300 solar energy systems and water tanks, ensuring a sustainable and safe living environment.
“These agreements are part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to secure the basic needs of people in conflict-hit zones,” stated Eng. Ahmed Al-Baiz, KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General of Operations and Programs, during the signing.
KSrelief’s focus on both education and housing in these regions underlines the importance of comprehensive, multi-sectoral aid in helping war-affected populations rebuild their lives.
