Al-Nassr fires boss Luis Castro, pushes for new manager to handle C. Ronaldo, teammates
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr has officially parted ways with Portuguese head coach Luis Castro, just hours after the team’s AFC Champions League match.
Castro, who took over in July of last year, guided the team to victory in the King Salman Cup for Arab Clubs but struggled in domestic competitions, finishing the season without any major trophies and being eliminated from the AFC Champions League.
This season proved challenging for Castro, especially following a defeat to long-time rivals Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final. A string of disappointing results eventually led to the club’s decision to terminate his contract.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Al-Nassr wrote: “Club have officially decided to terminate the contractual relationship with the first team coach, Mr. Luis Castro. We appreciate all the efforts he made with Nassr, and wish him success 💛.”
Meanwhile, football transfer icon Fabrizio Romano has hinted that former AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is the ‘main candidate’ to succeed the Portuguese after talks over a proposed move to Al-Ittihad collapsed.
Al-Nassr, currently seventh in the standings with five points from nine, faces Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
