Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, has arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on Saturday for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The visit, which underscores Iraq’s broader strategy of regional collaboration, focuses on strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Hussein outlined his goals for the trip, stating, “We will also explore new possibilities for collaboration to accomplish the goals of the people in both countries and promote development in the region.”
During a meeting with Omani journalists on Sunday, Hussein emphasized the longstanding historical ties between Iraq and Oman and expressed the need for enhanced coordination. He stressed the importance of establishing a joint committee in Baghdad soon to facilitate strategic and economic cooperation, according to a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
Hussein’s visit also touched on broader regional and international issues, including the ongoing war in Gaza, where he highlighted the “urgent need to save the Palestinian people.” This focus on regional stability aligns with Iraq’s diplomatic efforts to engage with neighboring nations on pressing geopolitical challenges.
Additionally, Hussein discussed Iraq’s ongoing domestic efforts to foster economic growth and improve services, emphasizing the country’s ambitious reconstruction plans. Of particular note was his mention of Iraq’s Development Road project, which he described as a key initiative for enhancing regional trade and transportation. “The project’s significance as a constructive and successful collaboration,” Hussein said, “would provide a secure route that accelerates cargo transportation in the region.”
The Iraqi Foreign Minister’s visit reflects a commitment to fostering closer ties with Oman while advancing Iraq’s broader goals of regional development and stability.
