President Erdogan knocks Israel’s backers for mounting death toll in Gaza
Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday slammed Israel and its backers for every person killed in Gaza due to severe food, water, and medicine shortages.
Erdogan said this in a news conference with his visiting Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the capital Ankara.
“The responsibility for every innocent person who dies in Gaza due to starvation, thirst, or lack of medicine lies with Israel and its supporters,” Erdogan said, adding that the “culprits” who are behind the mounting death toll in Gaza should be standing in courtrooms, not at congressional podiums.
He stressed that the Israeli government, led by Tel Aviv, has taken an ‘unyielding and obstructive’ approach in ceasefire negotiations with Palestinian groups in Gaza.
This stance was starkly illustrated by the targeted killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, who was engaged in truce talks with Israel at the time of his assassination.
This move, he noted, reveals Tel Aviv’s mindset and willingness to use violence even against those with whom they are supposedly negotiating peace.
“Preventing Israel from dragging our region into further tension can only be achieved by abandoning ambivalent policies,” Erdogan further said.
