Gaza casualties near 40,800 as Israeli strikes claim 48 more lives
No fewer than 48 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, bringing the total death toll to 40,786 since October 7, the Health Ministry in Gaza reported.
The ministry also noted that approximately 94,224 people have been injured in the ongoing conflict.
The statement further highlighted that “Israeli forces killed 48 people and injured 70 others in three ‘massacres’ of families in the last 24 hours.” It also mentioned that “many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them.”
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive on Gaza following the October 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas. The ongoing blockade has resulted in severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, leaving much of the region devastated.
Israel is currently facing genocide accusations at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered a halt to military operations in Rafah, a southern city where over one million Palestinians had sought refuge before it was invaded on May 6.
