The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Sunday that the remnants of the terrorist group ISIS are no longer a danger to the country.

Al-Sudani made his statements during a meeting with the commander of the Combined Joint Task Force—Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), US Army Maj. Gen. Kevin Leahy, and the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The two sides talked about the progress made in the technical discussions between Iraq and the United States about the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq and to move the mission into the framework of Iraq’s bilateral ties with the coalition’s member countries.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing cooperation in terms of exchanging knowledge and training with the Iraqi security forces.

The Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that the Iraqi armed forces continue their military operations to track down any traces of these terrorists, who hide in remote areas.

The country’s armed forces continue to participate in combat missions to eliminate the remnants of this terrorist group, who hide in isolated locations, according to Al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani’s remarks follow a joint operation carried out by Iraqi and US forces in the early hours of Thursday against terrorists belonging to the ISIS group in western Iraq, where 15 terrorists were killed.

ISIS fighters were equipped with weapons including grenades and suicide belts, according to a statement released by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which also stated that there had been no civilian casualties.

In 2014, the terrorist group ISIS took control of large areas in Iraq and Syria before being defeated in 2017, but the Iraqi authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group.
