Saudi Arabia implements 50% reduction on accumulated traffic fines before April 18, 2024
The Saudi Ministry of Interior has unveiled a significant measure aimed at alleviating the burden of accumulated traffic fines. Effective immediately, a 50% reduction in the payment of traffic fines incurred prior to April 18, 2024 (9/10/1445 AH) has been announced.
This strategic initiative comes in alignment with the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as the Prime Minister. It reflects the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and promoting compliance with traffic regulations.
The reduction scheme, orchestrated in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), seeks to incentivize violators to settle their fines within a six-month window from the inception of the initiative. Individuals are encouraged to either pay the entire sum in a single installment or address each fine separately, provided there are no concurrent safety-related offenses.
Clarifying the framework of the initiative, the Ministry underscored that violations occurring subsequent to the implementation of this reduction would be governed by Article 75 of the Traffic Law. This article stipulates a 25% reduction for individual violations, alongside potential legal repercussions, including imprisonment and enforcement measures, if fines remain unpaid beyond the objection period and the prescribed payment deadline.
Emphasizing the paramount importance of adherence to traffic regulations, the Ministry urged all road users to prioritize public safety by abstaining from violations. Such concerted efforts are vital for fostering a culture of responsible driving and ensuring the well-being of all citizens.
This announcement underscores the government’s proactive approach towards enhancing traffic management and promoting a safer environment for all stakeholders. As Saudi Arabia continues its journey towards comprehensive societal development, initiatives like these play a pivotal role in fostering compliance, safety, and public welfare on the nation’s roads.
