On International Women’s Day, the CEO of NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) underscores the invaluable contributions of women to innovation, progress, and sustainability. With the commencement of the world’s largest green hydrogen plant construction, NGHC emerges as a leader in the sector, committed to advancing gender equality within its organization.

Saudi Arabia’s economic landscape is undergoing a profound metamorphosis, spurred by Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying revenue streams and augmenting competitiveness. Integral to this vision is the imperative to empower women to actively engage in a flourishing workforce, thereby laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and prosperous society. Despite a UNESCO study revealing that 57% of STEM students in the MENA region are women, their representation in relevant fields of employment remains significantly lower, necessitating remedial action.

At NGHC, we are dedicated to cultivating an environment where women not only occupy positions of influence but also spearhead initiatives shaping the trajectory of our industry. Through targeted talent acquisition endeavors and strategic collaborations with local and national educational institutions, we are forging pathways for female Saudi nationals and international talent to emerge as leaders in delivering sustainable climate solutions. A primary objective entails addressing the underrepresentation of women in the energy sector, particularly in nascent industries such as hydrogen, mindful of the disparity persisting despite women constituting over 50% of STEM graduates in the MENA region.

I take pride in spotlighting the remarkable achievements of the exemplary women within NGHC, epitomizing our unwavering commitment to gender diversity and inclusivity. Notable among them is our Chief Legal Officer, recently honored with the prestigious Arabian Business Women Achievement Award 2024 for her pivotal role in facilitating NGHC’s financial endeavors. Likewise, our EHS&S Strategy Specialist is breaking barriers as a Saudi female excelling in on-site roles ensuring adherence to safety standards. At NGHC, we are steadfast in providing opportunities across various domains for women to actively contribute to the green hydrogen industry’s advancement.

Reflecting on my personal journey, I am reminded of the inspirational women who have left an indelible mark on my career trajectory. From family members to colleagues, their resilience, intellect, and fortitude have served as guiding lights. As leaders and proponents of change, it is our collective responsibility to create an enabling environment for women to thrive and succeed. At NGHC, we remain resolute in implementing policies and initiatives fostering gender diversity, equitable advancement opportunities, and a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.

Together, let us endeavor to construct a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future, wherein the contributions of all, irrespective of gender, are valued and celebrated.
