China condemns Gaza aid seekers’ killings
China has issued a strong condemnation following the tragic events in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, where over 100 Palestinians lost their lives during an aid delivery. Speaking on behalf of the Foreign Ministry, spokeswoman Mao Ning expressed China’s shock and denouncement of the incident.
“China is shocked by this incident and strongly condemns it,” stated Mao Ning on Friday, further conveying condolences for the victims and sympathy for the injured.
The incident unfolded as Israeli troops in the northern Gaza Strip engaged with Palestinians who were seeking essential food aid on Thursday. Conflicting reports emerged regarding the nature of the events, with the Israeli military describing a “stampede” scenario amidst thousands of Palestinians surrounding a convoy of 38 aid trucks. However, a military official acknowledged that Israeli forces resorted to opening fire during the encounter.
In response to the escalating situation, China has called upon all relevant parties, particularly Israel, to immediately cease fire and put an end to the ongoing violence. Emphasizing the need to prioritize civilian safety and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, Mao Ning urged concerted efforts to prevent further exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis. “China urges the relevant parties, especially Israel, to cease fire and end the fighting immediately, earnestly protect civilians’ safety, ensure that humanitarian aid can enter, and avoid an even more serious humanitarian disaster,” reiterated Mao Ning.
The incident has sparked international concern and calls for accountability as efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza intensify. China’s stance underscores the importance of upholding humanitarian principles and safeguarding civilian lives amidst the ongoing conflict.
