The Saudi Foreign Ministry has voiced its approval of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) preliminary verdict, which specifically addresses allegations of genocidal practices and statements directed towards Palestinians in Gaza.

The Ministry firmly supports this decision and condemns what it perceives as Israel’s occupation practices, along with violations of the Genocide Convention.

This endorsement was accompanied by a commendation for South Africa, the country that initiated the legal action, and a call from the Saudi Ministry for the international community to heighten efforts towards terminating violence in Gaza. Furthermore, there was an explicit call for the global community to ensure the protection of Palestinians and to hold Israel accountable for what are alleged to be violations of international and humanitarian law.

Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), offered his praise for the ICJ’s ruling, underscoring its emphasis on alleged Israeli crimes in Gaza. Al-Budaiwi specifically highlighted the court’s meticulous documentation and stressed the necessity of international intervention to enforce compliance with the ruling by Israel. The verdict was particularly noted for its alignment with international laws aimed at safeguarding civilians, referencing Israel’s alleged targeting of civilian infrastructures in Gaza.

The Muslim World League (MWL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have also welcomed the ICJ’s decision. Both organizations stressed the ongoing importance of international initiatives to bring a halt to the conflict in Gaza, protect civilians, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The OIC, additionally, called for a complete cessation of alleged Israeli military aggression and actions deemed as genocidal, including displacement and destruction across Palestinian territories. Gratitude was expressed towards South Africa for initiating the legal proceedings that led to the ICJ’s ruling.
