US President nominates Tracey Ann Jacobson as Ambassador to Iraq
US President Joe Biden has unveiled his nomination of Tracey Ann Jacobson as the next US Ambassador to Iraq. This announcement, made on Thursday, underscores Jacobson’s pivotal role in the Biden administration, as highlighted in a statement released by the White House. This development aligns with recent agreements between Baghdad and Washington to establish a timetable for the withdrawal of the international coalition from Iraq.
The collaborative effort between Iraq and the United States has led to the creation of a High Military Committee, tasked with assessing the threat posed by ISIS and formulating a gradual withdrawal plan for the international coalition advisors combating the terrorist organization in Iraq. This diplomatic initiative reflects a commitment to regional stability and security.
Tracey Ann Jacobson, a distinguished career member of the Senior Foreign Service, previously served as the Charge d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her extensive diplomatic background includes ambassadorial roles in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kosovo, along with a significant tenure as the deputy chief of mission in the American embassy in Riga, Latvia.
A graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. and an M.A. from the university’s School of Advanced International Studies, Jacobson brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her nomination signals a strategic move by the Biden administration in maintaining diplomatic ties with Iraq and addressing regional security concerns.
