Saudi Arabia urges immediate global action to halt unarmed civilian casualties in Gaza
Saudi Arabia has called for swift measures to bring an end to the tragic loss of unarmed civilian lives in Gaza, emphasizing the need for concrete actions to curb the ongoing violence.
Speaking on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed El-Khereiji unequivocally rejected Israel’s self-defense justification. Addressing the UN Security Council during its open debate on “The Situation in the Middle East,” El-Khereiji decried the forced displacement of Gaza’s populace, labeling it as unacceptable.
El-Khereiji expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions in Gaza due to what he described as ongoing Israeli aggression. Citing indiscriminate bombings by the Israeli military, he highlighted the rising number of casualties and underscored that the consequences of the conflict are a collective responsibility. Saudi Arabia, he emphasized, had previously warned about the potential expansion of the conflict, expressing its commitment to alleviating human suffering and ending military operations in Palestine as top priorities.
The Deputy Minister voiced apprehension regarding military operations in the Red Sea region and Yemen. He stressed the importance of implementing measures to contain the crisis’s repercussions on neighboring countries and international peace and security, advocating for a just and lasting solution.
El-Khereiji reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to seeking and promoting peace in the region. Strongly condemning violations of international and humanitarian law by any party, he urged the UN Security Council to take a firm stance. He called for compelling Israeli occupation forces to respect international law, bring an end to Palestinian suffering, and establish an independent Palestinian state that safeguards the rights and dignity of its people.
