Adel Al Jubeir, Saudi Climate Envoy, disclosed Saudi Arabia’s intention to become a global supplier of nuclear energy, akin to its role in the oil market. The announcement, made at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos, underscores the Kingdom’s strategic pivot towards economic diversification and sustainable energy development.

Al Jubeir emphasized the vast uranium deposits in Saudi Arabia, signaling a pivotal shift in the nation’s energy strategy. The focus lies on leveraging these resources domestically to stimulate economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and ensure the Kingdom retains the economic benefits. Committed to adhering to global safety standards, Al Jubeir assured the international community of Saudi Arabia’s dedication to regulatory compliance, engaging in discussions with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“We see ourselves as energy exporters to the world. We want to sell nuclear energy, oil, gas, green energy, renewable energy, and the whole spectrum of energy products,” declared Al Jubeir, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive approach to energy exports. This vision aligns with the Kingdom’s commitment to diversifying energy sources to meet the escalating global demand, with a proactive stance in setting international standards rather than merely adhering to them.

Al Jubeir not only outlined the Kingdom’s aspirations as an energy exporter but also emphasized its active role in addressing global challenges such as climate change. Collaborating with other nations, Saudi Arabia aims to reduce emissions and contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts. The envoy elaborated on the Kingdom’s holistic approach to environmental conservation, encompassing strategies like circular carbon economy implementation, urban redevelopment, afforestation, and waste recycling.
