Israel conducted a series of airstrikes on Gaza on the 99th day of the protracted conflict, exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory. Reports indicate that telecommunications were severely impacted, leading to a complete blackout in Gaza, hindering communication and posing additional challenges for responding to the crisis.

Witnesses observed Israeli bombardment in the early hours, targeting areas between Gaza’s southern cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah, where displaced civilians sought refuge. The blackout, resulting from Israeli bombardment, disrupted all internet and telecommunications services, significantly impeding emergency response efforts, according to the main operator Paltel.

As the relentless bombardment persists, casualties continue to rise, with at least 23,708 lives lost, predominantly women and children, as reported by the latest health ministry figures. The conflict, initiated by an unprecedented attack from Hamas on October 7, has also led to substantial civilian casualties in Israel, prompting international concern.

International aid efforts face significant challenges, as Israel is accused of systematically blocking humanitarian aid convoys to northern Gaza. Andrea De Domenico, head of the UN aid agency OCHA for the occupied Palestinian territories, expressed frustration, describing the situation as reaching a level of inhumanity beyond comprehension.

Despite the ongoing crisis, there are glimpses of resilience among the population. A couple in Rafah proceeded with their wedding despite the destruction around them, emphasizing the determination to continue with life amid adversity.

Amidst these developments, there are diplomatic efforts underway. Israel announced a negotiated deal with Qatar to deliver much-needed medicine to hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum raised concerns about the captives’ health, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

As the conflict approaches its 100th day, criticism has been directed at the UN human rights office for not explicitly demanding the release of hostages in its calls for a ceasefire. Israel contends that any call for a ceasefire should include demands for the release of hostages and the disarmament of Hamas.

In the occupied West Bank, violence escalated, with Israeli troops killing three militants following an attack on a Jewish settlement. The surge in violence has resulted in at least 337 deaths in the West Bank, according to the health ministry in Ramallah, highlighting the broader impact of the Gaza conflict on the region.
