In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid underscored the destabilizing effects of the recent conflict in Gaza on regional stability during a meeting with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski. The discussions, held on Tuesday, delved into the latest security developments in Iraq and the broader Middle East. The Iraqi Presidency, in a released statement, detailed the key points addressed during the meeting.

President Rashid emphasized the necessity for the international coalition forces present in Iraq to focus solely on supporting Iraqi security forces through training and consultation. He advocated for a well-defined work program to govern the activities of these forces within the country, aiming to ensure a balance that aligns with Iraq’s national interests. The President expressed Iraq’s keenness to foster balanced relations with neighboring countries and the global community, with a strategic vision geared toward mutual benefit and regional stability.

Addressing the longstanding Palestinian issue, President Rashid reiterated Iraq’s unwavering stance and called for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression against civilians in Gaza and other Palestinian cities. He stressed that the conflict in Gaza had repercussions on the overall stability of the region and urged the international community, particularly the United States, to fulfill their responsibilities in halting the aggression against the Palestinians.

Ambassador Romanowski, in response, underscored the importance of coordination on shared concerns within the framework of the strategic agreement between Iraq and the United States. She affirmed the United States’ commitment to maintaining regional security and stability, expressing support for international efforts aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing conflict in Palestine. The discussions reflect the ongoing diplomatic efforts to navigate complex regional dynamics and foster cooperation in the interest of peace and stability.
