Drone strike claims lives of three militia fighters in eastern Baghdad
In a targeted drone strike on Thursday, at least three militia fighters with alleged ties to Iran were killed, and six others sustained injuries in eastern Baghdad, as reported by Iraqi security sources. Eyewitnesses and police sources indicated that a building utilized by the Iraqi paramilitary group Al-Nujaba was struck by at least two missiles.
The spokesperson for Al-Nujaba confirmed the casualties, revealing that among the deceased was a local commander. Blaming the United States for the attack, the spokesperson accused the nation of orchestrating the strike. Iraqi police officials stated that they await the outcome of a government investigation before releasing further details on the responsible party.
This incident follows the U.S. counterattacks in Iraq last month, responding to a drone strike by insurgents linked to Iran that left one U.S. serviceman critically injured and two others wounded. Over the past few months, Iraq and Syria, hosting U.S. and international coalition forces, have experienced more than 100 attacks, predominantly involving a combination of missiles and one-way attack drones, since the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas erupted in October.
