Iraqi faction strikes Israeli gas platform in mediterranean, tensions escalate

The Israeli army reported intercepting a drone last week over the Mediterranean Sea near Lebanon, preventing its entry into Israeli airspace. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has since claimed responsibility for targeting Israel’s Karish gas platform in the Mediterranean with a drone, asserting a direct hit on the Karish gas field, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, stated that a drone was successfully destroyed last week while attempting to breach Israel’s territorial waters. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq justified its actions, citing support for Palestinians in Gaza and retaliation against Israeli forces for alleged civilian massacres.
This incident adds to a series of drone and missile attacks claimed by Iraqi armed groups, supported by Iran, targeting US and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria since October 17. These actions are purportedly in response to Washington’s backing of Israel in the conflict with Gaza. The situation in the region remains tense as geopolitical tensions continue to rise.
