Iraq dispatches 10m liters of fuel to Gaza through Egypt
The Iraqi government has officially announced the dispatch of a fuel tanker carrying 10 million liters to Gaza via Egypt. Zidan Khalaf Obaid, Advisor to Iraq’s Prime Minister on Human Rights, confirmed the departure from the port of Basra, emphasizing the mission to aid Palestinians facing hardship in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The initiative follows reports from humanitarian organizations highlighting critical challenges, including fuel shortages impacting vital services like hospitals. Despite Israeli authorities confirming the allowance of fuel into Gaza, persistent shortages raise concerns about distribution and accessibility, prompting international calls for urgent support.
Israeli authorities attribute the shortages to alleged deliberate actions by Hamas, accusing the group of seizing and concealing fuel to fabricate a humanitarian crisis. In response, Hamas denies the allegations, placing blame on Israeli restrictions as the primary cause of insufficient fuel supplies.
Against this backdrop, health officials in Gaza report a staggering loss of over 20,000 Palestinian lives since October 7. Israeli authorities claim that this follows an unexpected attack by Hamas militants resulting in 1,200 Israeli casualties and approximately 220 others taken hostage.
As the fuel crisis persists, the Iraqi government expresses its commitment to sending additional relief shipments in the ongoing effort to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza.
