Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakim, leader of Iraq’s Alliance of National State Forces, paid a visit to Kuwait to express condolences for the passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Emir of Kuwait.

Al-Hakim, accompanied by a delegation, was warmly received by Kuwait’s Crown Prince Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the capital. The condolences were extended to Kuwaiti officials, as reported by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

This follows Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s similar gesture on Sunday, underlining solidarity between the neighboring nations during this period of mourning.

The late Emir, aged 86, was admitted to the hospital in early December for medical treatment after facing an emergency health issue. In November 2021, the Emir had delegated some constitutional powers temporarily to Kuwait’s Crown Prince, a move that came into effect when the Emir’s health condition required immediate attention.

According to Kuwait’s constitution, the crown prince automatically assumes the role of emir but officially takes office after swearing in before the parliament. The newly appointed emir has a grace period of up to a year to designate an heir.
