Germany confirms commitment to complete Siemens work in Iraq on schedule
Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, reaffirmed the growing ties between Iraq and Germany during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the 78th edition of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Al-Sudani confirmed that the action plan, originally agreed upon during his visit to Berlin in January, has been making substantial progress. Notably, the contracts forged between Iraq and Siemens Energy earlier in the year are being executed with commendable progress, reflecting Iraq’s commitment to advancing clean and renewable energy initiatives.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani extended an invitation to Chancellor Scholz to participate in the forthcoming Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, scheduled for the end of 2023.
Chancellor Scholz expressed the German government’s enthusiasm for completing the agreed-upon action plan, enhancing the involvement of German businesses in Iraq, and ensuring that all work proceeds according to the established schedule.
Furthermore, Chancellor Scholz highlighted Germany’s willingness to share expertise in the energy sector with Iraq, particularly in the efficient utilization of associated gas. He commended Al-Sudani’s policies and the remarkable progress achieved in Iraq, emphasizing the country’s newfound stability.
Chancellor Scholz also revealed plans for the German Minister of Economic Affairs to visit Iraq in the near future, reflecting Germany’s commitment to fostering economic cooperation and partnership with Iraq.
