Sudan rivals agree to 24-hour countrywide ceasefire, say Saudi Arabia, US
Saudi Arabia and the United States have jointly announced that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to a nationwide ceasefire in Sudan, set to commence on Saturday and last for 24 hours.
The ceasefire will come into effect at 6:00 a.m. local time in Khartoum. As part of the agreement, both parties have committed to refraining from prohibited movements, attacks, use of aircraft or drones, aerial bombardment, artillery strikes, reinforcement of positions, and resupply of forces during the ceasefire.

They have also pledged not to exploit the ceasefire for military advantage. Additionally, the agreement ensures unrestricted movement and delivery of humanitarian aid across the entire country.
Recognizing the frustrations of the Sudanese people regarding the inconsistent implementation of previous ceasefires, the facilitators proposed this latest ceasefire as a means to break the cycle of violence. If respected, the 24-hour ceasefire will create a crucial window for the delivery of much-needed humanitarian assistance and provide an opportunity for confidence-building measures between the parties. These measures, in turn, could pave the way for the resumption of the Jeddah peace talks.
However, the facilitators cautioned that if either party fails to uphold the 24-hour ceasefire, they will be compelled to consider adjourning the Jeddah talks, indicating the seriousness of their commitment to a lasting and meaningful cessation of hostilities.
