A New York group, Union Settlement, has honored a Muslim immigrant, Adama Bah.

The group disclosed this via its Facebook page on Thursday February 16, 2023.

“Today we recognize Adama Bah: author, community organizer, immigrant rights advocate, and a Union Settlement Volunteer,” the group said.

According to the post, Adama grew up in East Harlem after she and her family emigrated to the U.S. from Conakry, Guinea in 1990.

“At only 16, she experienced more than what any high schooler should have to, culminating in the deportation of her father,” US said.

It added, “This became the crucial turning point in her life, and it encouraged her to share her story and become a social justice advocate for immigrants and refugees.

“Adama continues to spearhead efforts to give back to her community and support incoming asylum seekers in East Harlem and throughout NYC alongside the East Harlem Community Partnership here at Union Settlement.

Appreciating the honor, Adama said, “As a mother, I can understand the desperate need to give my child a better life, so helping newly arrived parents and children navigate this system that isn’t formulated for them has been a pleasure and
honor.”

Adama is the author of “Accused: My Story of Injustice.”
