Intoxicated man shoots EMT in ambulance on Staten Island
An intoxicated man has shot an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the back of an ambulance on Staten Island.
According to a report, the EMT from Richmond University Medical Center was shot on Staten Island Wednesday evening, while transporting a patient to the hospital.
Speaking about the incident, authorities stated that police responded to the shooting around 7:41 p.m. at 646 Forest Ave.
“The alleged gunman was taken into custody at the scene and the victim was transported to the medical center in stable condition,” police say.
it was reported that the victim, a 25-year-old male EMT, was responding to a 911 call of a disorderly person outside of a bar.
“Upon arriving to scene, the EMT escorted Thomas McCauley, 37, into the ambulance,” police say.
While in the back of the vehicle, McCauley brandished a firearm and fired one round, which struck the EMT in the shoulder, and fled out the back of the ambulance.
Authorities also stated that McCauley was apprehended by a retired NYPD detective and an off-duty sanitation employee.
Police say a 38 caliber revolver gun was recovered at the scene.
“The EMT had nearly five years on the job and was working with a partner who was unharmed,” a spokesperson from the medical center said.
Mayor Adams’ press secretary finally reported that the mayor has been briefed on the situation.
