Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined Muslims in New York and across the globe in the celebration of the commencement of this year’s Ramadan.

In her greetings to the Muslim communities via her Facebook page on Saturday April 2, 2022, the congresswoman gave some office practices for non-fasting folks.

In her words, “Ramadan Mubarak to everyone in NY-14 and around the world. We hope this month brings prosperity and blessings to you and your loved ones.”

Issuing a peace message, she said, “We also thought it might be helpful to share some of our office’s practices for non-fasting folks, as several of our staffers will be fasting this month.”

“Be cognizant of your fasting colleagues when eating in the office and do not offer them food. If you can, avoid coffee or lunch meetings.

“Avoid asking a colleague why they are not fasting. Not all Muslims fast for the month of Ramadan for a myriad of personal and health reasons,” Ocasio-Cortez stated.

She added, “Be flexible and understanding of your colleagues who are fasting, as people have lower blood sugar and no caffeine during the day.

“Sending peace and strength to everyone fasting this Ramadan!”
