Nigeria: Gunmen kill 3 policemen, injure 2 others in Anambra
Gunmen have killed three policemen on duty in Onitsha Anambra State.
According to a report, the incident happened around 9 am on the Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka road in Onitsha, on Sunday September 19, 2021.
“Two other officers were injured during the shooting incident at a security post mounted by the police operatives,” the report says.
A source said, “The gunmen might have been angered by the alleged extortion by the operatives at the security post.”
The source added, “Any time they station there, the residents feel relieved because the place is a dangerous area. But the way they extort motorists is what people don’t like.
“Some people believe the gunmen are pro-Biafra agitators.”
The state Police Public Relations, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said the operation vehicle of the police was set ablaze.
He, however, said he had no detail of the incident yet.
