The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has called for strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols during this year’s I’tikaf.

The call was made in a statement signed by its Director of Administration, Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, on Monday April 26, 2021.

“Following responses from various parts of the country on our Press Release of 28th Sha’aban, 1442 AH (11th April, 2021) on I’tikaf, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, again enjoins the Ummah to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocols in their respective states of residence,” the statement reads.

It adds, “In states where I’tikaf is permitted, Muslims are allowed to perform it while observing necessary safety measures and where it is not, Muslims are encouraged to refrain from it.

“Whichever case obtains in one’s state, the directives of state governments and health authorities on Covid-19 should be complied with.”
