Saudi Arabia welcomes Hissein Brahim Taha as new OIC secretary-general

Saudi Arabia has welcomed the uncontested election of Chad’s Hissein Brahim Taha as the new secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah said on Saturday that “The Kingdom would offer all its support to the new secretary-general from on its effective role in serving the Islamic nation around the world.”

Taha was elected to succeed Youssef Al-Othaimeen. He will assume his duties in November 2021.

Prince Faisal thanked Al-Othaimeen, whose term ends in October 2021, for his great efforts throughout his tenure.

Al-Othaimeen, for his part, congratulated his successor, who will assume the five-year presidency on November 17, 2021.

He also thanked Saudi Arabia, home of the OIC, and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and Prince Faisal for their constant trust and support throughout his tenure.

Taha was sworn in on Saturday during the 47th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
