Nigeria: EU, IRC, donate items to fight Covid-19 in Borno State
The European Union and International Rescue Committee have donated assorted protective equipment worth millions of naria to fight Covid-19 in Borno State.
While presenting the items on Friday in Maiduguri to the state’s Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Mustapha Gubio, IRC’s deputy team leader, Dr. Adah Ameh, said the donations was aimed at complementing the efforts of the state government on the pandemic.
Dr Ameh said the items included the protective equipment, face masks, infectious prevention materials, protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
She noted that with donations of the protective equipment and materials, the pandemic could be prevented from further spread into Borno communities.
“This is also to ensure safety of environmental and medical specialists and health workers in the front lines.
“We’re not only supporting the State Government fight coronavirus pandemic that had spread to five Local Government Areas, including Maiduguri metropolis.
“The EU and IRC, had also been assisting Borno’s recovery and resettlement efforts during the decade long conflict in Northeast,”Dr Ameh said.
While receiving the COVID-19 materials, the State Commissioner, Engr Gubio, thanked the EU team leader, Mallam Kabiru Abass, for the Support and Coordination of EU intervention in Borno state.
He also appreciated the contributions and support of the IRC and EU in the Early Recovery, Humanitarian Interventions and rebuilding of Borno during the decade long insurgency.
The representatives of Health Ministry and Primary Healthcare Development Agency also commended EU for funding the health, education, energy, shelter, environment and protection sector projects.
Gubio therefore, assured all donor agencies at the event of government’s commitment to safety and security of their staff.
