Nigeria’s Sultanate Council announces New Hijrah year

The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs has announced that Friday 21st August, 2020, will be the beginning of a new Hijrah year.

This was declared in a press statement released on Wednesday where it stated that there were no reports received from the Moon Sighting Committees across the country “confirming the sighting of the New Moon of Muharram, 1442 AH.

“Therefor, Thursday 20th August will be 30th Zulhijja,1441AH.”

The statement adds that Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has accepted the report and has thus declared Friday 21st of August, 2020 as first day of Muharram 1442 AH.

“His Eminence, the Sultan fecilitates with the Nigeria Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings,” It concludes.
