Turkey completes talks on flight resumption with 92 countries
Turkey’s transport and infrastructure minister Adil Karaismailoglu has concluded talks on flight resumptions with 92 countries.
Karaismailoglu said this during a press release on Friday August 14, 2020.
He stated that Turkey will continue to operate scheduled and non-scheduled flights with 48 countries.
The 48 countries are Albania, Algeria, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Djibouti, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Luxembourg, Mauritania, Moldova and Morocco
Other countries include North Macedonia, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Somalia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the U.K., the U.S., the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Ukraine.
The minister said flights with Kazakhstan, which were restarted on 20 June but suspended again on 4 July due to a surge in virus cases, will resume on September 1, 2020.
He said the country has restarted its domestic flight operations with maximum hygiene and safety measures.
Turkey previously suspended all international flights in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, but has been gradually resuming flights since 11 June, 2020.
Meanwhile, doctors in Turkey’s coronavirus hotspots said health facilities were getting overstretched due to a larger number of cases than are reported in the official nationawide count, which rose to well above 1000 that week.
Medics associations said the intensive care units (ICUs) and emergency rooms in hospitals set aside for COVID-19 were filling up in the capital Ankara and the southeast city of Gaziantep.
Turkey has reported 245,635 cases 228,057 recoveries and 5,912 deaths.
The COVID-19 has spread across the world, affecting 213 countries and territories, with the U.S., Brazil, India and Russia respectively standing as world’s hardest-hit countries.
So far, the world has recorded more than 21 million cases and 760,000 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic.
