UK tackles Covid-19 rule violation, increases face mask fine to £3,200

United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has increased the fine charge for breaking face mask rule to £3,200.

While disclosing this on Friday August 14, 2020, Boris Johnson said though most people across the country were “doing their bit to control the virus”, but “we cannot be complacent”.

He explained that mask dodgers may face a fine of up to £3,200 for repeatedly refusing to wear a face covering, while organisers of illegal lockdown raves could be handed a £10,000 penalty.

However, there are exceptions for children and those with a physical or mental illness, impairment or disability.

This announcement comes as police threaten to increase patrols, losing patience with hundreds who have descended on beaches, forests and parks for illegal raves in the past few months.

The prime Minister said, “That is why we are strengthening the enforcement powers available to use against those who repeatedly flout the rules.”

“Today, we are able to announce some further changes which will allow more people to return to work and the public to get back to more of the things they have missed,” he added.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel, also said that she would not allow progress in tackling the virus to be jeopardized by” a small minority of senseless individuals.”

She said on Thursday evening that “These measures send a clear message – if you don’t co-operate with the police and if you put our health at risk, action will follow.”
