Britain removes Belgium from safe list, demands quarantine on arrivals
Grant Shapps, Britain transport minister, has said that passengers arriving Britain from Belgium, the Bahamas and Andorra would have to quarantine for 14 days as the cases of coronavirus keep rising in the country.
Shapps made the announcement on Thursday August 6, 2020, following decision by ministers to curtail rise in infections especially by preventing arrivals from infections-ridden places.
Disclosing this on his tweeter handle, Shapps wrote, “Data shows we need to remove Andorra, Belgium and The Bahamas from our list of #coronavirus Travel Corridors in order to keep infection rates down.”
“If you arrive in the UK after 0400 Saturday (0300 GMT) from these destinations, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days,” Shapps added.
The move to remove Belgium from the Britain’s safe list was a similar step already taken by Estonia, Ireland, Latvia and Norway to keep down rates of infections.
However, Malaysia and Brunei have been included in the Britain’s safe list according to Britain’s transport department.
Meanwhile, Belgium has earlier been designated as a ‘code orange’ country by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control to mean that the country records about 20 numbers of cases per its 100,000 inhabitants more than two weeks.
As thousands of Britons are vacationing in different part of the world, Britain has again mandated arrivals from Spain and Luxembourg to undergo 14-day quarantine to drastically keep down the rate of infections.
As of Thursday, Britain has recorded about 308,134 coronavirus cases and 46,413 deaths with no cases of recovery.
