Kenya extends nationwide curfew, ban sales of alcohol

Kenya has extended its nationwide curfew, earlier due to be lifted on 6th of August, for the next 30 days to curb spread of coronavirus infections.

The nation’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta, confirmed this on Monday July 27, 2020, in a televised address.

He said that adding that during the period sales of alcohol in restaurants is also banned to ensure public safety.

While disclosing this, Kenyatta said coronavirus is an invisible war that must be fought with collective efforts.

“The harsh reality my friends, is that we are at war. At war with an invisible enemy who is relentless,” said Kenyatta

According to the ministry of health, as of Sunday, the number of confirmed cases has clocked 17,603 including the 960 new cases recorded on Sunday, while the number of coronavirus-related death has risen to 280.

The recent records of the infections has jumped from about 7,900 cases since the President last made a televised address on 6th of July at which time the number of reported deaths stood at 160 compared to the latest 280 deaths.
