Five lives were lost and 85 people were wounded in a car bomb attack that occurred on Sunday 19 July 19, 2020, in Azaz region in northwestern Syria, according to Syria and Turkish state media.

It was reported that fifteen people wounded in the attack that occurred in Siccu village across the border from Turkey’s southern province of Kilis, have been hospitalized on the Turkish side of the body and some were in critical conditions.

Since 2016, the region of Azaz has been under the control of Turkey-backed rebels following Turkey’s incursion into Syria when Turkey intended to drive away Islamic State militants and the Syrian Kurdish YPG, a U.S.-backed militia that Turkey regards as a terrorist group, from its border with Syria.

On Sunday, a parliamentary election was held in Syria across government territory.

Since most part of the country have fallen under the control of President Bashar al-Assad coupled with the U.S sanctions, the country has been struggling with its economy.
