Iraq fixes July 23 for reopening of international flights

Iraq has announced that its airports would resume international flights starting from 23 July, 2020, as the country begins to relax restriction measures against the coronavirus spread.

Airports within Kurdistan region are also parts of the Iraq’s airports to resume international flights.

In March, Iraqi authorities banned all commercial passenger flights in a bid to contain the coronavirus infection.

Surge in the disease cases prompted the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority to extend the flights ban.

The government body for the country’s fight against the coronavirus said on Thursday 16 July, 2020, that it was considering lifting the curfew by early August of the year.

Parts of the new measures to relax the lockdown include reopening of shopping malls and reducing the period for the imposed overnight curfew to a shorter time, which is now 8 and a half hours.

So far, Iraq has recorded 86,148 cases and 3,522 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic.
