Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta expresses confidence in Aubameyang

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has has expressed confidence in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing a new contract with Arsenal as the Gabon striker on Wednesday became the fastest Gunners player to net 50 Premier League goals with a double in the 4-0 victory over Norwich.

Aubameyang, 31, has just one year until his contract with the club expires at the end of 2020/2021 season.

Given the performance of the striker, Arteta is highly optimistic that Aubameyang would be willing to renew his contract with the club because he is happy and is enjoying his time at the club.

When asked if Aubameyang would remain at the club, Arteta said, “I am very positive with that.

“Every time I speak with him he is really happy where he is, he is very settled and his family are happy.

“Hopefully he will be on board for a long time.”

Arteta also added that Aubameyang is making incredible improvement and that they are working on some parts of his games he needs to get much better at.

“He can see what we are trying to do and hopefully he can evolve as well some parts of his game he might feel he can improve. We are pushing him every day,” added Arteta.

“I leave that to the football club and the senior people that finalize the contracts.

“Auba knows really well what my thoughts are towards him and the project that I want to create, and how much he is part of that. And after that it is not in my hands.”

Aubameyang joined the Arsenal in January 2018 from Borussia Dortmund on a £56m, and he has scored 51 goals in 79 league games for the club.
Giving Aubameyang’s record, Arteta commended him saying his achievement is phenomenal.

In the Premier League, just five players have had 50 top-flight goals faster than Aubameyang and they are: Mohamed Salah (72), Fernando Torres (72), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), Alan Shearer (66), Andy Cole (65 games).

While responding to a question over the possibility of him signing a new contract with the club Aubameyang said he would deliberate with the club and see what happens next.

“We’ll see. We’re going to talk with the club and see what happens.
“I am really focused on the games until the end of the season and then we’ll see,” he said.
