Democratic US presidential candidate, Joe Biden, has announced plan to travel to Houston on Monday 8 June 2020 and meet with the George Floyd’s family.

According to Biden’s aides, the move is coming following Floyd’s death in police custody, which has triggered nationwide protests over racial injustice.

The schedule will afford Biden to directly sympathize with Floyd’s family. He will grant a video recording message for the private funeral service, which is slated for Tuesday in Floyd’s hometown of Houston, his aides said.

Biden is not expected to attend the funeral service due to his Secret Service protective detail, according to report.

There will also be a public viewing on Monday in Houston.

Floyd’s death occurred on 25 May, 2020 after a Minneapolis police officer had knelt on the back of his neck for several minutes, despite his complaints he could not breathe.

The unarmed black man was seen pin down by a white police officer. The incident has set off massive street demonstrations, spreading across the United States and around the world.

Biden, a Democrat, recently faulted President Donald Trump’s response to the protests.

Mr Trump had earlier called on authorities to crack down on the protesters due to occasional clashes and property damage recorded in the largely peaceful protests.

Biden’s trip with his staff to Texas for campaign has been challenging due to consequences of the novel coronavirus outbreak, causing widespread shutdowns since spring.

The 77-year-old Democratic Presidential candidate has left his Delaware home only on a few occasions with his farthest travel as Philadelphia since the pandemic outbreak.

Mr Biden will take on the incumbent President Donald Trump in the US election scheduled for 3 November, 2020.

The former US Vice President and 2020 Democratic nominee for president has famously framed his current ideas through the lens of his past.

Many supporters have praised him for his ability to comfort those in mourning. His first wife Neilia and infant daughter Naomi died in a car accident while his son Beau died following a brain cancer diagnosis.
