Nigerians defy heavy rain, protest George Flyod’s killing
The Black Lives Matter Movement in Nigeria (BLMMN) on Monday June 1 2020 joined the worldwide call for justice for the murder of George Floyd who died on May 25 at the hands of a Minneapolis Police officer.
Many Nigerians took to the street of Lagos amidst heavy downpour to condemn the outrageous killing of Floyd who died shortly after he was taken to the hospital after a police officer, Mr Chauvin, kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and forty five seconds pinning him to the ground.
Following the ugly incident, Chauvin and other three police officers were sacked by the Minneapolis Police Department, and Chauvin has been charged with third degree murder.
Floyd’s murder has led to six consecutive days of protests across the US causing civil unrest ever witnessed in decades.
People around the world are still protesting, demanding justice and equal treatment of African American citizens in America.
