Federer has become the world’s highest-paid sports star.

This was contained in the publication released by Forbes on Friday 29 May, 2020.

The 20 time-major champion earned $106.3 million over the past 12 months to grab the top spot.

According to research analysts, Federer is the perfect pitchman for companies, resulting in an unparalleled endorsement portfolio of blue-chip brands worth $100 million a year for the tennis great.

Last year, Federer ranked fifth when the football star Lionel Messi was ranked No. 1. But this year, the Swiss star ranks the first on the list, being the first tennis player to top the annual Forbes list.

The latest ranking table shows Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo rank the third and second respectively.

The achievement of this feat is linked to the coronavirus pandemic, which triggers the salary cuts for football stars Messi and Ronaldo.

“The consequence of the pandemic cleared the way for a tennis player to rank as the world’s highest-paid athlete for the first time, said Kurt Badenhausen, editor at Forbes.
