Minneapolis Killing: London protesters violate lockdown directive, visit US embassy
Hundreds of protesters have gathered outside the United States embassy in London in solidarity with the protests in the United States against the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The protest took place on the southern Bank of the Thames River on Sunday 31 May, 2020.
People had earlier gathered in Trafalgar Square in London for solidarity that made everyone kneel for 9 minutes.
The display was in commemoration of the 9-minute period the policeman knelt on Floyd’s neck before giving up.
In the build-up, George Floyd’s recent death in Minnesota has resulted in violent protests for 5 consequent nights.
The National Guard troops were seen patrolling the major US cities on Sunday 31 May, 2020.
“No justice, no peace. Black lives matter!” were among the signs put up by the London protesters at the US embassy.
Reacting to the protest amidst lockdown restrictions, the UK Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raad, described the footage of the incident “very distressing”.
The UK official, however, kept to the self-imposed guidance not to comment on President Trump’s recent responses trending on social media about the protests.
Meanwhile, the nearly two months of restrictions in the UK will begin to ease on Monday, June 2020 when authorities will officially permit groups of of six people to gather.
