Domestic flights resume operations in India
After two months of strict lockdown, domestic flights resumed operations in India today, Monday May 25, 2020, except Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal which would begin operations 26 and 28 respectively.
The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Ouri, who said, “Andhra Pradesh which will start on 26/5 & West Bengel on 28/5, domestic flights will recommence across the country from Monday.”
As the flights began operations, Delhi airport first departure to Pune was at 4.45am with IndiGo 6E643 being the first passenger flight to depart from the airport, while Mumbai first departure at Mumbai airport to Patna was at 6.45 am., and SpiceJet was the first passenger flight to arrive at Delhi was from Ahmedabad.
According to Mumbai airport operator, MIAL, “The first flight departing out of CSMIA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport ) will be to Patna at 6:45hrs and flight arriving from Lucknow will be the first arrival flight at 8:20hrs both operated by IndiGo.”
However, as flights operate across the country, several passengers were left stranded at at Kempegowda International airport they have their flights canceled without the airline giving prior notice to the passengers.
Expressing their disappointment, one of the stranded passengers said, “Our flight has been cancelled, without prior notice from the airline. Only when our boarding passes were scanned at the airport entry we were told that boarding has been cancelled. We don’t know what to do now.”
On March 25 scheduled commercial passengers flight were suspended, and last Thursday it Was announced that only one-third of domestic flights would resume operations on Monday. International scheduled flights still remained suspended in the country.
