Nigerian politician unveils palliative program, distributes 5,000 food stimulus packages
Since the beginning of the national lockdown ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari, a Nigerian politician, Hon Alli Adeyemi Taofeek, who represents Mushin Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives, has launched numerous palliative programs to cushion the economic effects of the lockdown among people within his constituency.
The well-orchestrated initiative was planned to be executed in three stages in order that no stone is left unturned.
The first stage of the initiative, which came up early April, targeted the elderly and most vulnerable people living within the constituency.
At this stage food items were distributed to the beneficiaries right in their homes.
Also, in a bid to reach out to fellow Muslims during this month of Ramadan, he launched another fantastic initiative tagged, “Ramadan Feeding” (Iftar).
According to him, this initiative, which feeds not less than 800 fasting Muslims across Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA every day, continues until the end of Ramadan.
To further reach out to the entire constituency, Hon Alli will be unveiling another powerful initiative on Wednesday May 2020. This initiative aims to reach out to 5,000 residents.
This package mainly contains packed food items such as beans, semovita, wheat, garri, Golden penny and spaghetti among others.
While speaking about the rationale behind the gesture, Hon Alli noted that it was one of his social intervention programs aimed at reducing the economic burdens confronting people in his constituency as a result of the global pandemic.
“As a leader, the welfare of the people in my constituency is a major concern to me. I must ensure nobody, especially the vulnerable ones, is left unattended to,” he said.
“In a bid to complement the efforts of the federal and state governments and to also cushion the economic effects of Covid-19 among my people, I have decided to reach out to 5,000 residents.
“These 5,000 residents will all receive a variety of food items to feed themselves and their family members. Besides, there are other palliative programs in the pipeline,” he added.
He, however, stated that each bag would contain 10 kg of a food item. He stressed that a total of 5,000 bags would be distributed.
