Mexico under siege, journalist, Mayor, Councilman killed in attack
For 2 days, Magdalena de Kino, Mexican state of Sonora, has been under siege following cartel shootouts, which has led to the death of a former Mayor of the town along with a current Councilman.
As gun battle rages between two tlrival cartels in Mexico, a Journalist, Jorge Armenta, has been murdered in an attack in Mexico’s northern Sonora state.
While disclosing this in a tweet on Sunday May 17, 2020, the office of Sonora’s attorney general said that a municipal police officer was also killed in the attack in Ciudad Obregon, while a second officer was wounded.

Mexican authorities have, however, called for better protection of reporters, as 3 journalists killed in Mexico in year 2020.
It was gathered that Armenta, who was the director of digital media outlet Medios Obson, had received threats and was under government protection.
Sonora state Governor, Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, stated that she had directed the prosecutor to immediately launched investigations to establish and fish out those responsible for the reprehensible attack.
Mexico, as well as Syria and Afghanistan has been labeled as the world’s most dangerous countries for news media.
These regions are notable for violence linked to drug trafficking and political corruption.
