WWE marks Captain Tom’s 100th birthday with special belt

Captain Tom, the World War II veteran who captured the world’s attention by raising $120 million has been honoured with his own WWE specially designed championship belt to mark his 100th birthday.

Captain Tom who turned 100 on Thursday raised the $120,000 for the NHL by walking 100 laps in his Bedfordshire Garden while the country was in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This special honour was announced by the current Scottish WWE champion Drew McIntyre who became the first British wrestler to win the WWE championship after he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania earlier this April.

“As WWE Champion, it is my honor, on behalf of @WWE, to celebrate the 100th birthday andextraordinary achievements of Captain Tom Moore with a personalized WWE title. Happy birthday sir, and thank you. #WalkWithTom #CaptainTomMoore,” McIntyre, twitted.

‘I am proud that WWE has created a WWE Championship title for Captain Tom Moore featuring personalised side plates to celebrate his 100th birthday and commemorate his achievements for the NHS,” McIntyre said.

“He is a true hero who stepped up when his country called in World War II, and who stepped up again today with the same selfless courage and determination to help others,” added McIntyre.

McIntyre commented about Captain Tom’s achievement and expressed a wish to meet and have a handshake with the captain.

“At WWE our mission is to put smiles on people’s faces around the world.

“Captain Tom Moore has achieved that by uniting millions across the world in support of his truly outstanding fundraising endeavours.

“Captain Tom, I look forward to shaking your hand in person someday,” he noted.

As people from around the world celebrate Captain’s 100th birthday, the captain has received over 125,000 cards wishing him happy birthday.

The captain has however turned down any more cards and gifts saying that many more people are in need in this critical time of coronavirus. He therefore appealed to people to give those gift items to those who most need them.

“I continue to be offered lots of lovely items. I really dohave everything I need but others are struggling due to Covid-19 so, rather than giving to me, please look to donate these generous offers to a local care home or someone in your community. Thank you,” Captain Tom twitted.
