NY Islamic leader launches Ramadan emergency fund, calls for donation
Our Islamic Center at NYU’s hope is to help as many people as we can that are struggling to meet their basic needs, especially in these blessed days of Ramadan.
An Islamic leader resident in the New York City, Imam Khalid Latif, has launched a COVID-19 Ramadan Emergency Support Fund to cater for the indigent in the city.
While disclosing this on his Facebook page, Latif stated that the emergency fund was aimed at assisting those struggling to meet their basic needs, especially in the month of Ramadan
Latif, who announced the donations received so far, said, “Our Ramadan Emergency Support Fund broke $300,000 today alhamdulillah.”
“Our Islamic Center at NYU’s hope is to help as many people as we can that are struggling to meet their basic needs, especially in these blessed days of Ramadan,” he said.
While appreciating those who have donated to the emergency fund account, Latif noted that parts of the donations had been disbursed to assist about 42 households and 114 individuals.
“So far we have been able to send checks to 42 households and assist 114 individuals and we anticipate sending out more in the coming days,” he explained.
He therefore called for support from individuals and organizations to make their significant contributions and help spread the information.
“If you can help us spread the word on the campaign I’d greatly appreciate it. Please make a zakat-eligible/tax-deductible contribution. Even a dollar makes a difference.
“If you or someone you know is looking to apply for financial assistance, you can do so here,” he concluded.
