Aston Villa players agree to 25% pay cut for four months
Aston Villa first-team players, senior management and first-team coaches have agreed to 25 percent pay cut deferral of their wages for four month as a way of helping the Premiere League club to fight off the financial hardship imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
This agreement was announced in a statement by Christian Purslow, the club chief executive.
He said, “First-team players, first-team coaches and senior management have all agreed to defer 25 per cent of their salaries for four months to assist the club during this period of uncertainty with a further review taking place at the end of this period.”
He however stated that part-time and full-time non-football staff would not contribute in the financial struggle and would continue to receive full salaries throughout the lockdown.
“They are continuing to provide substantial funding which, combined with these significant salary deferrals, enables Aston Villa to confirm that all non-football staff- full and part time- will be retained and paid in full throughout the lockdown,” he stated.
Similarly, as the club is taking measures to protect the livelihoods of our precious staff and their families, the chief executive further disclosed that the club would not furlough staff as all staff would be retained.
“The club remains fully committed to serving our local communities through the Aston Villa Foundation and we want to help and ensure our people and our resources can be put to use while we are not playing football,” he said.
“Consequently we have made all our facilities available to the multi agencies working so hard to protect people during this time of national emergency,” he added.
