Newborn baby fights off Covid-19

Peyton Maguire, a Scottish baby that tested positive for Covid-19 when she was just three weeks old has recovered.

Peyton was born premature on 26 March 2020, eight weeks before her due date weighing 3 pounds and 5 ounces.

At Wishaw General Hospital in Lanarkshire, Peyton showed slightest symptoms of sniffles and few coughs which were quite undetectable. Following her diagnoses, Peyton was given steroids to help strengthen her lungs and she received adequate care from neonatal nurses.

Recovering from her Caesarian section Peyton’s mother, Tracy was asked to go home for isolation for 14 days. She though pleaded to the doctors to allow her stay with her daughter.

“I was pleading on the phone with the doctor saying I don’t want to be away from her,” said Tracy.

After lots of pleas, Tracy was allowed to stay with her baby.

Commending the doctors and nurses for their amazing job, Tracy said, “They are doing a job that is unreal – they put their life at risk to make sure my baby was getting fed and cuddled in their full PPE.”

“It’s spectacular, you’ll never understand how grateful you can be to people. Peyton is my most precious thing in the whole world and I trusted them to look after her,” she added.

As the cases of coronavirus death increases in Scotland, the little Peyton survived the virus. She is now home with her mother Tracy and father, Adrian.
