Columbus rewards Joonas Korpisalo two-year contract extension with Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets has rewarded a 26-years-old All-star goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo, with a two-year contract worth annual value of $2.8 million for the 2021-2022 seasons.
While announcing this new contract on Friday 17th April 2020, the club noted that Korpisalo set a single-season career record in several categories, including the several games he had played, won, and goals-against average he had recorded.
Korpisalo was a starter when he joined Columbus, but fit well in the club taking over from Sergei Bobrovsky who left the club this summer for a lucrative contract with the Florida Panthers.
“Joonas had the opportunity to play a lot of games for us early in the season before he was injured and responded by playing at an All-Star level,” said, Jarmo Kekalainen, the Columbus general manager.
“He is a young, talented goaltender with a great work ethic and desire to succeed and we are very excited to see his continued development and improvement moving forward,” Kekalainen added.
Korpisalo had 19-12-5 record in 37 games including this season 2.60 goals against average, 911 save percentage, two shutouts and 938 saves.
In his first half career with the Columbus, this season, he was selected to appear for his first NHL All-Star Game but was unable to participate due to a knee injury he sustained in late December that sidelined him for two months from 25 games.
